Tom’s perfect dive at the finals.
I know we’re all hyped up about Tom winning a Bronze medal but can we all just take a moment to appreciate this guy, Chris Mears. He is such an inspiration its unreal. Chris had a near death experience only 3 years ago and had to have surgery for a ruptured spleen whilst diving at the Youth Olympic Festival in Australia, he lost 5 pints of blood and then later suffered a seven hour seizure before going into a coma for three days. Despite all of this he carried on diving and made it into Team GB for the London 2012 Olympics. He carried on with his diving even though it nearly cost him his life, he carried on with it because he loves diving and to me, that is inspirational. I don’t think I could have done what he did.
“Honestly, this medal means so much to me. It’s unbelievable, after the year I’ve had. Well, it’s been the toughest year of my life with my dad, and it was a shame he wasn’t there to see that today, because I know he would have been proud of me for what I’ve done. To go into the prelims and have a shakey start and make it through to the semi finals, and to come back the next day and not lose confidence. I’m just literally so happy, and I really really wish my dad was there to see that” - Tom Daley
